Developing "Just Right" Sensory Integration Interventions

Developing "Just Right" Sensory Integration Interventions will provide knowledge, understanding, and application of sensory integration theory, with an emphasis on the Ayres SI® frame of reference to support a child’s participation in expected daily school and home routines, activities, and occupations.  This course provides occupation-based interventions to support the health and participation of children (ages 3-21 years old) in their educational, home, and community environments successfully and independently.

Instructor: Kareen Robbins MS OTR/L, SIPT

1.    Define sensory integration and neurologic components to apply sensory integration theory to occupational performance.

 

2.    Describe how attention and learning are dependent on sensory functioning. (Typical Sensory Functioning)

 

3.    Identify sensory integration dysfunction and its effects on academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and motor performance during occupations.  

 

4.    Identify evidence-based interventions to address specific sensory integration dysfunctions with successful outcomes.

 

5.    Discuss appropriate environmental and occupational modifications to effectively address sensory functioning at home, school, and in the community.

 

6.    Identify progress monitoring tools to effectively measure outcomes for sensory functioning.

All courses are presented with the instructional methods, lecture, collaborative group learning, and case studies while incorporating kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learning styles. The delivery format is Distance Learning through the Zoom Platform and delivered in both interactive and independent formats. 

Continuing education credit (certificate) is awarded with completion of all activities within the learning activity,  attendance, a 70% passing grade for learning assessments, and completion of the course evaluation.
